Sinker probe: AI enabled monitoring, seabed sediment and water samples

Introducing the Intelligent Sinker Probe

The image is showing a man trowing the intelligent sinker probe overboard from a vessel
1) Throw overboard
Throw the intelligent sinker probe overboard from the vessel.
The image is showing the sinkerprobe sinking and taking water samples on its way down to the seabed
2) Water sampling
The probe is pulled down by the heavy bottom sampler module and takes water samples at predefined depths.
The image is showing the sinker probe taking a sediment sample and investigates the seabed and the surrounding marine environment
3) Seabed sediment sample and visual inspection
The impact triggered bottom sampler sucks up sediment from it's penetrating tip, The wide angle zoom camera pans the surroundings illuminated by the flood light and the tele lens cameras investigates and takes a closer look at targets.
The images shows teh sinker probe inflating a balloon for surfacing
4) Surfacing
The surfacing module triggers and inflates a balloon for surfacing.
The image shows the sinker probe attached to the high visibility balloon ready to be picked up by a vessel
5) Pickup
The high visibility balloon makes the probe float until it is picked up from the vessel

We are excited to introduce the Intelligent Sinker Probe, an AI-powered investigative tool designed to streamline underwater data collection and reduce costs for large-scale monitoring of marine areas.

Whether you are looking to monitor species numbers, obtain seabed sediment samples or investigate water composition from a variety of depths up to 200 metres, our AI-powered Intelligent Sinker Probe offers the affordable solutions you are looking for.

How does it work?

Our AI-powered Intelligent Sinker Probe features a modular design, allowing for full customisation depending on your project requirements.

The unit is designed to be easily deployed by hand from a vessel, sink to the seabed, perform its tasks and then surface for easy retrieval, without the need for expensive research ships or complicated machinery.

Current Modular Features

  • AI Processor
Our AI dongle: a powerful cost-efficient industrial grade plug and play network device allowing implementation of AI analysis into monitoring systems. With this device, the Intelligent Sinker Probe is equipped with a powerful microcomputer and a highly capable AI processor, ready to tackle a wide range of tasks. These tasks can include object counting, measurements, sample collection, and potentially autonomous ROV operation.

  • High-Resolution Cameras
Two 12 MegaPixel cameras, one wide and one telelens: these allow the probe to capture detailed images and videos, aiding in the identification and analysis of marine specimens.

  • LED floodlight
Powerful LED lights illuminate the camera view. The deeper you go, the darker it gets, so lighting is essential.

  • Flotation Device
A high-visibility floating device is triggered once samples are collected, ensuring the probe can be easily retrieved after surfacing, simplifying the recovery process.

  • Water sampler
A mechanical water sampler is triggered to suck water into a replaceable container at a pre-configured depth or depths.

  • Sediment sampler
A mechanical sediment sampler is triggered on impact with the seabed, sucking the sample into a replaceable container.

For interest, the components listed above are the same as used in our ROV assistant project. We have plans for additional modules for more specialized data collection and analysis tasks.

Marine Research Project Solutions

Blue Carbon Initiatives
Our AI-powered Intelligent Sinker Probe is specifically designed to assist your project in investigating the ocean's capacity to act as a carbon sink. We're particularly interested in Blue Carbon projects with aims to explore how the ocean absorbs atmospheric CO2, transports it to various depths, and ultimately sequesters it in seabed sediments. By utilizing the advanced capabilities of the Intelligent Sinker Probe, we can efficiently support you in collecting water samples from different depths and sediment samples from the ocean floor. These samples can then be analyzed to determine the concentration and distribution of absorbed CO2, assess the effectiveness of its sequestration in sediments, and monitor changes in CO2 levels over time.

Oceanic Contamination and Environmental Monitoring
Our probe is specifically designed to assist projects involved in the comprehensive monitoring of oceanic contamination and other environmental factors that may impact marine ecosystems. If your project focuses on identifying and analyzing pollutants, nutrient levels, and various chemical parameters in the ocean, do get in touch. By deploying the Intelligent Sinker Probe, we can efficiently support you in collecting water samples from different depths and sediment samples from the ocean floor, providing a detailed assessment of the ocean's environmental health.

MV Jorgen Amundsen

MV Jorgen Amundsen
MV Jorgen Amundsen
Our research ship is an optimized platform for initiating monitoring projects

We can organize an onboard solution for you to continuously monitor areas of interest by offering periodic collection of water samples from different depths and sediment samples, either on-site or remotely.

On-site Operations

Our research ship, the MV Jorgen Amundsen is an optimized platform for initiating monitoring projects.

We have the capability to deploy 5-10 simultaneous probes at several locations per day. This can be initiated on a weekly or monthly basis in areas near our location.

Our project model includes establishing the initial data, assisting in locating alternative deployment vessels and service personnel, such as local fishing vessels or similar entities already operating in the area, and training them in the simple process of operating and servicing the probes.

Remote Operations

We are also available to organize the project management of initiating operations solely with local vessels if the MV Jorgen Amundsen is tasked elsewhere.

We will continue to support and ensure smooth operation and handling of samples with local partners such as universities or other organizations.

Contact us for more details. We are highly modular and development-oriented and can adapt our equipment according to your specific project needs.
